ΠΑΝ-ικός / PAN-ic

Pan …an ancient Hellenic god who has the distinction to be referred to as the god who died…the horned god that died… Pan embodied the totality of manifested life. The Orphic hymn (that is engraved at this creation) calls Pan the mighty, the shepherd of the cosmic universe, whose actual parts are the sky, the seas, the earth and the immortal fire [first English translation of the Orphic Hymn to Pan in 1787 by Thomas Taylor].

From his name originates the word panic [ πανικός ]. Both at the Battle of Marathon and Salamis he made the Persians tremble with fear from his roaring shouts. And then the tides of time changed…and he was chosen by those who established the new religion, to die. An exegesis, historical & metaphorical, mandated by the effort to support the new religion in a pagan world; and the forgery of, the dominant historian of the time, Plutarch was the seal needed for the cry “Great Pan is dead” to be undisputed.

Ο Πάνας…ο κερασφόρος θεός που πέθανε… Η ενσωμάτωση κάθε εκδήλωσης της ζωής. Για αυτό άλλωστε λέει ο Ορφικός ύμνος:” Τον Πάνα προσκαλώ τον ισχυρόν, τον ποιμενικόν του κοσμικού σύμπαντος, τον ουρανόν και τη θάλασσαν και τη γην που είναι βασίλισσα των πάντων και το αθάνατο πύρ΄ γιατί αυτά είναι τα μέλη του Πανός. “

Από το όνομα του προέκυψε ο πανικός & το πάνειον δείμα, ο έντονος ανεξήγητος φόβος. Τον ίδιο φόβο που ένιωσαν κι οι Πέρσες από τις ιαχές του θεού στη Μάχη του Μαραθώνα & στη Ναυμαχία της Σαλαμίνας΄κι οι Έλληνες ακολούθως τον τίμησαν και στις δύο περιπτώσεις. Ο καιρός όμως της εξάπλωσης του χριστιανισμού είχε φθάσει. Και επιλέχθηκε ο κερασφόρος θεός να πεθάνει, σηματοδοτώντας την έλευση της νέας εποχής. Πλαστογραφήθηκε έτσι ο Πλούταρχος, ούτως ώστε η κραυγή ” Ο Μέγας Παν πέθανεν” να είναι και ιστορικά αναντίρρητη.
