{Denise gracefully hosts Six Sentence Stories, where writers unleash their magic under one simple rule: in no more or no less than 6 sentences.
This week’s prompt word is : SIN }
“ The mind is its own place, and in itself
Can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven”
J. Milton, Paradise Lost
*
His appearance was always nothing shy of perfect, head to toe…but looking at himself now, with all the dust and the marks all over him, a volcano of disappointment is at the brink of eruption; good looking is an understatement when used to describe his magnetism and aura.
The boss clearly appreciated he had not only the looks but the mind to match them, and man, did he give him all the assignments needed to rise through the ranks of the organization at the speed of a free-falling Empire State Building elevator.
What is that saying by Paulo, he thought dusting himself off: “Modesty is an invention of mediocre people who want you to be one of them” …couldn’t have said it better myself Paulie!
Damn, this is damaged beyond recognition he sighed at the sight of his shirt, not without a slight guilt for cursing; his upbringing left no room for gutter-mouth expressions…
Frustrated, he got up and watched as the blanket of night covered the last light at the horizon…he still cannot get his head around the fact that his boss helped him ascend to the enviable number one position of his ranks, only to denounce him as easily upon his request of reforming the organization; and to add insult to injury, he dispatched his brothers and sisters in arms to terminate him…double damn.
One final look at his burnt armor, as it fell in glowing cinders into the abyss beneath his feet at the edge of a cliff…at least, my wings are intact…the thought brought a smile – the kind of smile that made every female in proximity experience multiple cerebral (and not) orgasms; glorious wings spread, bathing him in the light only he could be in…the bringer of Dawn…Father, thy will be done…I shall be the Father of Sin…but lest you forget, quoth Lucifer…”I have nurtured every sensation man’s been inspired to have, never judged him, never rejected him” 1 …and with a leap he flew over river Acheron.
1 from Al Pacino’s speech at the movie Devil’s Advocate
A behind the scenes tour of the creation Inferno,
My Road to Hell
PS : unexpected life circumstances will probably hinder me from interacting with you, as promptly as I often do. Please, do not interpret it as blasé . Ty.
Very biblical reference

Bravo! Devil’s Advocate has been a repeated gripping experience for me. The scene was beautifully and artfully set up in this excellent Six. 🙂

First off? Love the music. (Made for walking through an empty church on a Thursday morning, side-stepping spears of light that make impossible a straight path from entrance to altar.)
The concept itself… the most purloined of heritages, hidden in plain sight in the story of Man. All of the usual (and Unusual) suspects are in evidence. (Sorta like the Chief of Detectives, arriving last (as they always do) at the scene of the crime, noticing the victim was still alive, taking the weapon from the protagonist and shooting the unfortunate person one, and quite final, Time.
so, yeah, you could say I enjoyed this Six*
Wait, what!??! Did we see a ref to cognitive dissonance?!?! Man! I love/hate/fear/seek cognitive dissonance! It’s the difference between being deaf while serving a term in prison and the torture of hearing the sounds of places beyond the bars.
…don’t even get me started on ‘space creeps’**
We will stop now.
* movie reference?!! I gots yer movie references… right here…
** a full-on, cog-dif, that creates the mercifully-brief experience of becoming lost for a second while walking from one room into another, the thoroughly bracing sensation of not knowing where you are on the earth. (Only partially-related to the ill-advised experiment in ‘de-cognition’ the deliberate effort to see as unfamiliar, the everyday. )

Man, oh man…at this rate I will run out of walls to frame your feedback and revisit everytime I feel my efforts are worth zilch!
Movie references…damn straight.
Space creeps…!!! Yes to dat…not the de-cognition effort, hell no!
Clark,
Thank you.

I like the thought of Lucifer rising “at the speed of a free-falling Empire State Building elevator”.

Poor old Lucifer! Good to hear the story from his point of view. And so the battle begins…
‘His upbringing left no room for gutter-mouth expressions’ – this made me smile.
It’s often the little things that cause the most bother!

I am more than glad for your reaction Jenne!🙂
A smile is a gift, offered or received , that I never find it less valuable, on the contrary.
Little things…Jenne, how precise is your insight!

It is Sunday. An appropriate day to return.
To read again, leave a comment and allow the waves carry me for 3:07.
Superb soundtrack, Nick, to a story with a most dramatic conclusion.
