Words from the poem of Jorge Luis Borges ( 1899 – 1986 ), Ajedrez ( Chess ) :

” Tenue rey, sesgo alfil, encarnizada reina, torre directa y peón ladino sobre lo negro y blanco del camino buscan y libran su batalla armada.”
(Weakling king, slanting bishop, relentless Queen, direct rook and cunning pawn seek and wage their armed battle across the black and white of the field.)

“Dios mueve al jugador, y éste, la pieza.
¿Qué Dios detrás de Dios la trama empieza de polvo y tiempo y sueño y agonías? ”
(God moves the player, and he, the piece.
Which god behind God begets the plot of dust and time and dream and agonies? )

The magic square at the back side is from the engraving ” Melancolia I ” by Albrecht Dürer (1471 – 1528).

  1. Wow, this is magnificent, Spira!

I was sick for several months with complications of kidney stones. Lately I’ve started another sf novel and find myself making rapid progress on it. “Rapid” is relative to my usual snail’s pace.

I hope everything’s going great for you and yours!

    • Am I glad to hear from you my dear friend!
I am also a bit disappointed with me cause although I have repeatedly thought of mailing you to say hi and ask how you were, I didn’t…
With all the load from the social networks / internet most of us try to handle (more or less successfully), I didn’t want to appear as another claim of your time/ energy.
But I see now, that it was a wrong approach; since I predetermined in a way, your view on my friendly enquiry. And for that, sincerely, I am sorry.

We are good over here, still standing and doing our best not to forfeit our dreams.
I hope that you’ve fully recovered and back aboard… 😉

Take good care of yourself Talmage and thank you for your friendship.
Good luck with your new inception!
